From startup nation to open innovation nation: The evolution of open innovation activities within the Israeli entrepreneurial ecosystem

Abstract

•Bridging open innovation literature with entrepreneurial ecosystem framework enriches understanding of innovation dynamics.•The analysis of open innovation in Israel's entrepreneurial ecosystem from 1993 to 2022 shows three distinct phases.•Multi-source data methodology provides comprehensive insights into open innovation evolution.•Increased collaboration between startups and corporates has redefined innovation dynamics in Israel.•Shift from creative destruction to creative construction dynamics facilitated by robust open innovation strategies.
