Der Einfluss der Euro-Einführung auf die Preisentwicklung bei frischen Lebensmitteln in Deutschland

Abstract

Der vorliegende Beitrag widmet sich der empirischen Analyse des Einflusses der Euro-Einführung auf die Preisbildung im Lebensrnitteleinzelhandel. Während sich bestehende Studien im Wesentlichen auf eurobedingte Preisrundungseffekte und andere preispsychologische Phänomene konzentrieren, wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit untersucht, ob Geldillusion bei den Marktteilnehmern und/ oder Menu-Kosten der Währungsumstellung Preisanpassungen verursacht haben. Anhand eines Fehlerkorrekturmodells wird empirisch überprüft, ob etwaige Preissteigerungen in verschiedenen Geschäftstypen des Lebensmitteleinzelhandels die Folge der Euro-Einführung im Jahr 2002 waren. Die Datengrundlage bilden wöchentliche Preisnotierungen für verschiedene Obst-, Gemüse- und Fleischprodukte im Zeitraum von Januar 1998 bis Mai 2003. Die Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass der Einzelhandel die Währungsumstellung nicht systematisch zur Änderung der realen Preise genutzt hat. Die in der Öffentlichkeit vielfach diskutierten Vorbehalte gegen die preistreibende Wirkung des Euros lassen sich bei den hier untersuchten Lebensmitteln und Geschäftstypen nur in Einzelfällen beobachten.
