El proceso de convergencia regional en México: un anáisis de la dinámica de transición bajo heterogeneidad estatal y temporal

Abstract

This paper builds on the methodology developed by Phillips and Sul (2007) to determine whether the per capita GDP of the Mexican States converge to the national growth path and it it is possible to find regional "Convergence Clubs" that share a common transitional dynamics. The empirical findings do not support convergence for the 32 Mexican States both in levels and growth rates. However, there is evidence of various "Convergence Clubs." In particular, a high-income club conformed by Aguascalientes, Campeche, Coahuila, Chihuahua, Distrito Federal, Nuevo León, Querétaro y Quintana Roo; and a low-income club, integrated by Chiapas, Guerrero, Estado de México, Nayarit, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, Tabasco, Tlaxcala y Veracruz. The configuration of these Clubs seems to be associated to the share of Foreign Direct Investment at the State level.
