Externalités de connaissance, équilibres spatiaux et bien-être

Abstract

[eng] Globalisation and the appearance of new technologies for the transmission of information are placing knowledge at the heart of economic regulation. Agglomeration externalities and cumulative underlying mechanisms are a powerful vector for the structuring of the productive landscape. Our aim is to examine the impact of these externalities on firm location equilibria. We show that technological spillovers constitute a particularly disruptive centripetal force. Furthermore, technological intensity turns out to have a decisive impact on the welfare of populations. This influence is exerted through several channels and works in opposite directions depending on the skill levels of agents. The examination of various thresholds of exchange-costs vindicates the idea of a supranational statutory regulatory institution. [fre] La mondialisation et l’avènement des nouvelles technologies de transmission de l’information placent la connaissance au coeur de la régulation de l’économie. L’existence d’externalités de proximité et de mécanismes cumulatifs sous-jacents constituent un puissant vecteur de structuration du paysage productif. Notre ambition est d’étudier l’incidence de ces externalités sur les équilibres de localisation des firmes. Nous montrons que les spillovers technologiques constituent une force centripète particulièrement perturbatrice. En outre, l’intensité technologique s’avère avoir un impact décisif sur le bien-être des populations. Cette influence s’exerce par le biais de plusieurs canaux et joue dans des sens opposés selon le niveau de qualification des agents. L’examen des différents seuils de coûts à l’échange légitime l’idée d’une institution légale supra-nationale régulatrice.
