How strong is the demand for food through direct-to-consumer outlets?

Abstract

•Demand for produce is closely associated with patronizing DTC outlets.•Gardeners are more likely to buy food directly from farmers.•Caring about food and nutrition does not raise propensity to shop at DTC outlets.•DTC outlets operate in an increasingly competitive retail environment.
