Risk dynamics and strategies of China's solar PV industry chain under trade frictions: A review

Abstract

Amid intensifying global energy risks and trade frictions, China's leading solar photovoltaic (PV) industry chain faces significant challenges. This study follows the framework of risk management theory to systematically analyze the risk dynamics and strategies within China's solar PV industry chain under trade frictions. Firstly, the study identifies six categories of trade frictions risks, as well as internal risks across upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the PV industry chain. Secondly, risk analysis is used to explore the impact of trade barriers on the industry and examines the interdependencies among internal risks, followed by a systemic coupling analysis of the entire PV chain. Thirdly, as traditional static risk assessment has limitations in evaluating the dynamic risks of China's solar PV industry chain, a dynamic risk assessment model is constructed that incorporates both temporal and spatial perspectives. Finally, China's strategies at different stages of industry development to respond to risks, including market diversification, domestic demand expansion, and technological innovation are reviewed. The review aims to provide theoretical guidance and practical insights for enhancing the risk management capacity of China's PV industry in an increasingly complex global environment.
