Determinantes de la discriminación racial en el mercado laboral en Ecuador, 2010-2012

Abstract

Introducción: el artículo se propone cuantificar la discriminación racial en el mercado laboral ecuatoriano entre el 2010 y el 2012. Metodología: la información se extrae de las encuestas de hogares trimestrales de empleo preparadas por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Censos de Ecuador, a partir de lo cual se estiman ecuaciones mincerianas sobre el ingreso laboral por hora. Posteriormente, se usa la descomposición de Oaxaca-Blinder con corrección de Heckman para determinar las diferencias salariales atribuibles a factores observables y no observables para dos grupos étnicos: los mestizos y las personas de raza blanca. Resultados: el diferencial salarial es significativo y positivo para las personas de raza blanca, y se incrementa en el periodo de análisis. El 40 % de este diferencial se debe a mayores dotaciones en capital humano. No obstante, cerca del 42 % de los gaps siguen sin explicar.
