Les effets de la formation informelle sur les gains : une comparaison sur données appariées françaises, marocaines et tunisiennes

Abstract

We use a model of on-the-job learning which considers two principal forms of training within firms: learning by experience and learning by watching. Using matched employee-employer surveys (in French, Moroccan and Tunisian firms), we find contrasted effects of informal training on earnings. The results show higher returns to tenure in Maghreb whereas learning by experience is the only apprenticeship effect which has a significant impact on earnings of Moroccan employees. The richness of the model presented here consists in the estimation, not only of the wage effects of learning by experience and learning by watching, but also of the speed of knowledge diffusion in firms and the relative knowledge of the firm (relative to that of a new worker). À partir d’un modèle d’apprentissage qui identifie deux des principales composantes de la formation en entreprise : le learning by watching et le learning by experience, nous faisons apparaître, à l’aide de données appariées sur la France, la Tunisie et le Maroc, des effets contrastés de la formation informelle sur les gains. Bien que les rendements de l’ancienneté soient significativement plus élevés dans les deux pays du Maghreb, le learning by experience semble être, pour les employés marocains, la seule composante de ce type de formation a avoir un impact significatif sur les gains. La richesse du modèle présenté ici ne réside pas exclusivement dans la mesure des effets du learning by watching et du learning by experience, mais aussi, dans l’estimation de la vitesse à laquelle se diffuse le savoir au sein de l’établissement et du potentiel formateur de ce dernier par rapport au savoir du travailleur entrant. Les résultats montrent que ce savoir relatif est presque deux fois plus élevé dans le cas tunisien que dans le cas français et n’apparaît pas significatif pour les établissements marocains.
