Ague, agricultura y desarrollo: avances y retos para la reduccion de la pobreza

Abstract

Agua y produccion agraria can indisolublemente unidas. El regadio permite aumentar y estabilizar las cosechas, mejorando las rentas de los hogares rurales. En las zonas mas pobres del mundo el regadio no se ha explotado de acuerdo al potencial productivo y los rucursos existences. El mundo tiene recursos suficientes para alimentarse, pero muchos paises veran aumentada su dependencia alimentaria del exterior debido a la escasez de recursos por habitante. La expansion del regadio en el mundo se ha ralentizado en los ultimos 20 anos. El regadio, como motor de desarrollo rural y vehiculo de reduccion de la pobreza, ha cobrado importancia tras la crisis alimentaria de 2007-2008, y el posterior encarecimiento de las materias primas agrarias. La gestion del aqua y de la tierra en las regiones mas pobres precisa tanto inversiones productivas como mejoras en la gobernanza y la participacion de la mujer. Este articulo analiza estas cuestiones y trata de identificar los retos mas acuciantes para 2011-2020.
