Efectos de las actividades artísticas en el desarrollo de habilidades cognitivas y no cognitivas en estudiantes vulnerables: El caso de la orquesta de Curanilahue

Abstract

La investigación en Chile acerca del efecto de las actividades no lectivas sobre el desarrollo de habilidades cognitivas y no cognitivas es muy escaso, a pesar de la creciente evidencia internacional de su relevancia, incluso, en algunos casos, superando la efectividad de programas tradicionales para el mejoramiento escolar. A partir de una experiencia inédita en el ámbito musical, el presente trabajo evalúa el impacto de la participación intensiva de niños y jóvenes vulnerables de la comuna de Curanilahue en la creación y desarrollo de la primera Orquesta Infantil y Juvenil de la comuna. Los efectos positivos de la experiencia en sus jóvenes participantes son tanto a nivel cognitivo como no cognitivo. Por un lado, se estima el incremento en el puntaje de las pruebas de admisión a la educación superior (PAA y PSU), empleando datos para los años 2001, 2002, 2003 y 2004, encontrando efectos positivos y estadísticamente significativos, tanto en matemáticas como en lenguaje. Adicionalmente, al analizar la evolución de los resultados en estas pruebas estandarizadas, para aquellos estudiantes que las rinden en más de una ocasión, indicador que puede ser considerado como proxy de habilidades nocognitivas relativas a la “orientación y persistencia a conseguir objetivos personales”, se encuentran resultados que indican un aumento progresivo en el puntaje, tanto de la sección matemáticas como lenguaje.
