Efficient Consumer Response meets the Industrialization of Agriculture

Abstract

Efficient Consumer Response (ECR) is a grocery industry effort to reduce the cost of delivering food products to the consumer. Industrialization of Agriculture (IA) is a phenomenon whereby decisions at the front-end of the food supply chain are based on knowledge of consumers' wants and needs. ECR and IA have developed independently of each other; however, both efforts are focused on the consumer. Cross-application of ECR and IA strategies and technologies over the entire value-chain will be necessary in order to deliver the ultimate value to the consumer. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
