Außenhandel und Löhne. Ein Literaturüberblick

Abstract

Während in der populärwissenschaftlichen Diskussion behauptet wird, eine Zunahme des internationalen Handels trage zu einer Verschlechterung der Arbeitsmarktchancen der niedrigqualifizierten Arbeitskräfte in den hochentwickelten Industrieländern bei, wird diese Hypothese in der empirischen Literatur nicht eindeutig bestätigt. Überlagert werden die Ergebnisse durch einen Disput zwischen Außenhandelsökonomen und Arbeitsökonomen um die korrekte Methode zur Messung der Außenhandelseffekte auf die Löhne. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt die theoretisch strittigen Grundannahmen der Literatur und der bisherigen Ergebnisse europäischer Studien gegenüber und fragt, wieweit die für die USA entworfenen Methoden auf Europa übertragbar wären.
