Abstract

This study conducted an experimental exploration into the impact of peers' performance nature (under-performer, over-performer, and on-time performer) on individual employees. For this, it carried out a vignette experiment on Nepalese civil servants (n = 857). Participants were assigned a ten-day task, and the findings demonstrated a significant increase in employees' performance commitment when exposed to the 'over-performer' treatment compared to the control group. The 'on-time performer' treatment also resulted in an enhanced commitment to timely task completion. Conversely, exposure to the under-performer treatment heightened procrastination tendencies, leading to a preference for extended completion times.
