Abstract

[fre] Exploitation d'une ressource non renouvelable,possibilité de stockage et règle d'Hotelling . . Rares sont les modèles de l'entreprise minière qui tiennent compte explicitement des possibilités de stockage de la firme. Nous montrons qu'un monopole peut être conduit à stocker tout ou partie de sa production, en vue d'exploiter au mieux un accroissement anticipé de sa demande. Nous montrons, par ailleurs, que même pour une variation instantanée de la demande, la politique optimale du monopole consiste à lisser son plan de production, stocker en période de demande faible pour déstocker en période de demande élevée. La comparaison des politiques optimales d'exploitation, avec et sans possibilités de stockage, permet de conclure qu'un monopole disposant de capacités de stockage accroît la valeur marginale de la ressource qu'il détient, ainsi que la valeur de son plan optimal d'extraction et de vente. On montre que la règle d'Hotelling reste toujours valable. [eng] Exhaustible resource exploitation, inventory capacity and the Hotelling's rule. . We consider the case of an exhaustible resource monopoly facing an instantaneous upward jump of his demand schedule. Allowing the firm for having inventory capacity, we show that a monopoly facing increasing marginal costs of extraction, may be interested in storing part or all of his production in low demand period, in order to optimize his selling policy. Even if the shift in demand is instanteneous, the optimal extraction policy for the monopolist must be continuous. We study extensively the optimal and selling policy in that context. We then compare optimal monopoly exploitation with an without inventory capacity. Being able to store the resource after extraction, the monopoly enjoys an higher present value of his initial resource stock, and higher profits from his optimal policy. Storage capacity tends also to shorten the extraction period length. Finally, we show that the so-called Hotelling's rule applies in this case.
