    Tanulmányunkban a beiskolázási életkor és a negyedik, illetve nyolcadik osztályosok teszteredményeinek összefüggését vizsgáljuk az országos kompetenciamérés 2006. évi hulláma alapján, a figyelmet az iskolázatlan, illetve diplomás anyák gyermekeire összpontosítva. Az instrumentális változók módszerével becsült eredmények arra utalnak, hogy az évvesztes, hétévesen beiskolázott gyermekek összességben jobban teljesítenek a kompetenciaméréseken, mint hatévesen beiskolázott társaik. A késleltetésből fakadó előny lényegesen nagyobb az általános iskolát végzett, mint a diplomás anyák gyermekei körében, de mértéke az iskolai pályafutás alatt csökken.
