Abstract

The micro-level detailing of the processes and causal relationships with the help of which agents (individuals) take into account each other’s activities in the process of making economic decisions is considered. The concept of a shared (collective) mental model (SMM) is considered to collect and process information distributed among agents that is important for decision-making. The abilities of agents to form SMM are considered under three main communication options (direct, indirect, and previous). On this basis, the concept of a universal coordination instrument (UCI) has been developed, which is present in every socio-economic agent. Agents use their UCIs in a mixed individual-collective mode to account for each other’s activities. The key findings of this study are that individuals engage in two types of rational behavior that lead to two types of equilibrium in the economic system. This allows the system to operate efficiently under substantive disequilibrium.
