Abstract

RESUMEN Los viajes entre el hogar y el trabajo estructuran la vida diaria de muchos trabajadores en el mundo. Utilizando datos de la encuesta Europea sobre condiciones de trabajo (EWCS,2015), examinamos el tiempo de desplazamiento al trabajo con datos de ciudadanos belgas, teniendo en cuenta las características socio-demográficas recogidas por la Fundación Europea para la Mejora de las Condiciones de Vida y de Trabajo (EuroFound). El objetivo de este estudio es examinar el tiempo de movilidad diario desde el hogar hasta el trabajo en Bélgica y estudiar cuales son los factores determinantes que marcan las diferencias de tiempo: trabajadores autónomos y por cuenta ajena o en relación a otras variables sociodemográficas, buscando palancas de acción para evolucionar hacia una movilidad más sostenible. Los resultados aportan una clara diferencia (estadísticamente significativa) en el tiempo diario de desplazamiento al trabajo entre trabajadores autónomos o por cuenta propia y trabajadores por cuenta ajena; los autónomos viajan en promedio 30 minutos menos por día que sus contrapartes empleados (15,7 vs 45,2). Poseer estudios universitarios y pareja son las dos variables significativas que aumentan el tiempo destinado al traslado en 15,64 y 8,56 minutos respectivamente. ABSTRACT Travel between home and work structures the daily lives of many workers around the world. Using data from the European survey on working conditions (EWCS, 2015), we examined commuting time with data from Belgian citizens, taking into account the socio-demographic characteristics collected by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living Conditions and Work (EuroFound). The objective of this study is to examine the daily mobility time from home to work in Belgium and to study which are the determining factors that mark the differences in time: self-employed and employed or in relation to other sociodemographic variables, looking for levers of action to evolve towards a more sustainable mobility. The results provide a clear difference (statistically significant) in the daily commute time between self-employed or self-employed workers and employed workers; the self-employed travel on average 30 minutes less per day than their employed counterparts (15.7 vs 45.2). Possessing university studies and a partner are the two significant variables that increase the time spent traveling by 15.64 and 8.56 minutes respectively.
