[Labor supply in Spain: An estimation with EU-SILC (2006-2019)]

Abstract

This paper estimates the determinants of wages and labor supply of the members of Spanish households. With data collected from the EU-SILC and using a sample limited to couples formed by men and women in working age for a period from 2006 to 2019, we frame a linear regression model whose OLS estimation provides the following results. The labor supply of household members varies differently when there is an increase in wages. Husbands will work fewer hours while wives will increase their participation in the labor market. The fact of being married is one of the main factors when it comes to determine women's labor supply, however there is no clear evidence that the number of children reduces their working hours.
