Ciudades de tamano medio e innovacion: Una aproximacion sistemica

Abstract

Desde mediados de la década de 1980, las ciudades han sido revalorizadas como soportes territoriales de los procesos de innovación y crecimiento económico. Las ciudades grandes y diversificadas son categorizadas como “incubadoras de innovaciones”. Sin embargo, las recientes estrategias de ordenamiento territorial y la literatura académica reconocen en las ciudades de tamano medio un potencial para inducir dinámicas de innovación. Esta capacidad innovadora adquiere un significado especial en países en desarrollo. El trabajo examina los factores que inciden en el desempeno innovador de las ciudades de tamano medio. Se hace una revisión de la literatura específica sobre ciudades de tamano medio e innovación y de los aportes desde la perspectiva sistémica de la innovación. Se argumenta que el enfoque de los sistemas regionales/locales de innovación ofrece valiosos elementos analíticos para comprender el desempeno innovador de estas ciudades y constituye un marco adecuado para futuros estudios empíricos.
