El uso de las competencias en el puesto de trabajo: un análisis para el caso español con PIAAC

Abstract

En los últimos años se está incrementando el número de trabajos que estudian las competencias de los individuos en relación con el mercado laboral. Es cada vez mayor el número de trabajos que estudian el rendimiento de las competencias y los efectos del desajuste en competencias en el mercado laboral. Sin embargo, son escasas las investigaciones sobre el uso relativo de las competencias, es decir, sobre el uso que los individuos hacen de las competencias en el puesto de trabajo en relación con las competencias que efectivamente poseen. En este trabajo se utiliza la base de datos PIAAC para España para contribuir a esta literatura generando una variable que mide el uso de la competencia lingüística a partir de la frecuencia con que los trabajadores realizan ciertas tareas en el puesto de trabajo. Posteriormente, se compara el nivel de competencia lingüística del individuo con el uso que hace de la misma en el puesto de trabajo con el fin de medir el uso relativo: se estima que en torno a un quinto de la población está infrautilizando esta competencia en su puesto de trabajo. Al comprobar los efectos del uso relativo en el mercado laboral se encuentra que la infrautilización de la competencia lingüística en el puesto de trabajo tiene fuertes efectos negativos sobre los salarios y la satisfacción laboral.
