Abstract

One of the most complex interdependencies is the GONE Nexus (Geopolitics, Oil, Nuclear Energy and Environment) as it combines geopolitical turmoil with energy crisis and poverty in confrontation with nuclear energy and the environment. It is observed that in recent years, human actions have taken a toll on vital infrastructure and their impacts are reflected in the economy, society, biodiversity and sustainability. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the diversion of tanker routes from the Cape of Good Hope have skyrocketed the cost of fuel and driven a large part of the population closer to energy poverty, while nations struggle with continuous increases in inflation.European countries are meeting to provide a long-term, environmentally friendly solution with the intensive use of nuclear energy that will ensure energy autonomy but at the same time will not be a threat to environmental sustainability and biodiversity as defined by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Through this approach, states will be able to disengage from the "Oil Paradox" without disrupting macroeconomic resilience and financial institutions.
