Foreign female domestic workers: help wanted!

Abstract

Aims to assemble available information on the extent, nature and conditions of migrant women working as domestic servants in private households, especially working and living conditions, in selected countries (Italy, Spain, France, the UK, Venezuela and Middle Eastern countries). Includes socio-economic characteristics and countries of origin of these workers, wages, hours of work, contract situation, social security coverage, and ways and means of recruitment. Recommends means of assistance, e.g. standard setting activities, policy- oriented research and social protection. Bibliography, statistical tables and samples of newspaper clippings.
