Nutrición y primera infancia para la inclusión y la transformación social

Abstract

Entre todas las inversiones sociales, las que se hacen en la primera infancia tanto en nutrición como en estimulación tienen una relación costo-beneficio más alta con respecto a las intervenciones que se realicen más adelante en la vida. En la actualidad, la región Caribe presenta los peores indicadores de desnutrición infantil del país y las tasas que se han venido registrando no muestran que las brechas se vayan a cerrar. El presente capítulo propone intervenciones para erradicar y prevenir la desnutrición infantil en la región Caribe, acompañado de una ampliación de la atención a la primera infancia como estrategia para cerrar las brechas con el resto del país a mediano y largo plazo. Entre 2019 y 2030 se requieren USD 3.002 millones entre infraestructura y operación para llegar a coberturas del 100% en la atención y erradicar así la desnutrición infantil. Las intervenciones propuestas se basan en las modalidades de atención existentes, junto con complementos ya probados en la región y constituyen un marco de referencia susceptible de ser adaptado a las particularidades de cada territorio en la región.
