Contrats de travail et segmentation du marché du travail dans le secteur manufacturier camerounais

Abstract

Résumé – L’objectif de cet article est d’étudier les différentiels de salaires entre les différents contrats de travail observés dans les entreprises formelles du secteur manufacturier camerounais en utilisant une technique économétrique qui traite les statuts contractuels comme une variable endogène, discrète et multinomiale. La particularité du marché du travail camerounais est prise en compte à travers le caractère écrit ou verbal du contrat de travail. Les données utilisées ont été collectées dans le cadre du projet sur « Les conditions de travail dans le secteur manufacturier camerounais » réalisée en 2006. Les analyses économétriques basées sur un échantillon de 1809 employés permettent de montrer que : (i) les contrats de travail constituent une base de la segmentation du marché du travail, (ii) le différentiel salarial entre les employés sous contrat verbal et ceux sous contrat à durée déterminée est expliqué par la différence des caractéristiques entre les deux groupes d’employés alors que le différentiel salarial entre les employés sous contrat à durée indéterminée et ceux sous contrat à durée déterminée est mieux expliqué par la précarité de l’emploi c’est-à-dire le fait d’être sur le marché secondaire
