Transnational education in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries: the challenges of internationalisation and quality in higher education

Abstract

Internationalisation of higher education has resulted in the global growth of transnational education. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries exemplify this landscape movement of institutions of higher education and educational programs across countries. A challenge of transnational education in these countries is the quality assurance of higher education to meet both national and international standards. This paper focuses on key issues, challenges, and implications resulting from the internationalisation of higher education in the GCC region.
