Percepción del valor del dinero y asignación de precios en un grupo de habitantes de la ciudad de Medellín

Abstract

Resumen El objetivo de la presente investigación es caracterizar las opiniones y las preferencias de un grupo de habitantes de Medellín, en relación con el número de dígitos que deberían tener los precios de un conjunto de bienes en una nueva unidad monetaria.Se encuestaron 98 personas, a las que se preguntó su opinión sobre los precios actuales de seis bienes distintos. Posteriormente, se les propuso que imaginaran que la unidad monetaria del país iba a cambiar y se les pidió que de acuerdo a esa situación asignaran el precio que ellos consideraban adecuado para otros cuatro bienes, en la nueva e hipotética unidad monetaria. La conclusión principal es que las personas encuestadas prefieren que los precios de los bienes se expresen en números con un menor número de dígitos. ****** Abstract This article shows the results of a research which intended to describe the opinions and preferences of a group of inhabitants of Medellin (Colombia) regarding to the number of digits that the prices of a set of goods should have taking into account a possible change of the country’s currency unit. Ninety-eight people were interviewed and they were asked for their opinions about the current price of six different goods. They were then asked to imagine that their country's currency had been changed and so they were asked to set a price for four different goods according to that new currency. The main conclusion in this research is that people preferred prices with fewer digits.
