El índice de miseria corregido por informalidad: una aplicación al caso de Venezuela

Abstract

Esta investigación propone una modificación al índice de miseria de Okun (IMO) adaptándolo a mercados con estas características, agregándole al nivel de desempleo el nivel de empleo en el sector informal (ESI). El estudio compara la evolución de diversos índices de miseria tradicionales en varias regiones durante las últimas décadas, haciendo hincapié en el caso venezolano, para el cual se estima también el nuevo índice propuesto. Los resultados muestran mejoras en el bienestar de los grupos de países considerados, que contrastan con el deterioro que el indicador experimenta en Venezuela. En términos generales, el IMO está dominado por el desempleo, excepto en Venezuela. Sin embargo, la preponderancia de la inflación sobre el desempleo en este país parece ocurrir por la subestimación que la tasa de desempleo hace de la situación del mercado laboral venezolano.
