Working and plant-operating times in Germany - some facts and trends for manufacturing, the service sector and retailing

Abstract

In 2004, the Ifo Institute carried out an extensive empirical study on issues relevant to the labour market for the European Commission. A random sample survey in manufacturing, the services and retailing was conducted on various aspects of working and plant-operating times. A similar survey was conducted for the same sectors in 1999. This article reports on some facts and trends in the area of employment.
