Abstract

Innovativen Unternehmen, insbesondere kleinen und mittelgroßen Betrieben (KMU) wird eine Schlüsselposition für den technischen Fortschritt und die internationale Wettbewerbsfähigkeit von Industrienationen zugewiesen. Die Fähigkeit, neues Wissen zu generieren und in marktfähige Produkte, Fertigungsverfahren und Dienstleistungen umzusetzen, ist ein entscheidender Faktor für den wirtschaftlichen Erfolg von Unternehmen im globalen Wettbewerb. In der wirtschaftspolitischen sowie der wissenschaftlichen Diskussion wird darüber hinaus betont, dass die mittelständischen Unternehmen nicht nur in forschungs- und wissensintensiven Wirtschaftszweigen eine Vorreiterposition beim Einsatz neuer Technologien einnehmen, sondern auch in den übrigen Branchen die Nachfrage beleben, zukunftsfähige Märkte eröffnen und den Wettbewerb anheizen.
