Retornos a la educación en zonas rurales

Abstract

En el trabajo se presentan estimaciones de retornos a la educación en zonas rurales segmentando el análisis por actividad agropecuaria y por categoría ocupacional del individuo. Se utilizaron micro datos de una encuesta de hogares rurales en partidos de la provincia de Buenos Aires realizada durante el año 2006. En el trabajo se implementan diversas técnicas econométricas de estimación (MCO, Heckman, Variables Instrumentales, Selección Multinomial Logit) para estimar tasas de retorno a la educación. En promedio los retornos estimados se encuentran entre un 9 porciento y un 13 porciento por año de escolaridad. Cuando se controlan las actividades realizadas por los individuos entre agropecuarias y no agropecuarias, sistemáticamente el retorno a la educación en actividades no agropecuarias es superior a las agropecuarias. El control por categoría ocupacional y sector muestra que los mayores retornos se dan en las actividades por cuenta propia en el sector no agropecuario, le siguen los trabajadores asalariados en el sector no agropecuario, luego los cuentapropistas agropecuarios y finalmente los trabajadores asalariados agropecuarios. Estos resultados muestran los diferenciales que existen entre sectores y actividades, lo que seguramente genera señales tanto para la acumulación de capital humano, para la reasignación del tiempo de trabajo y para la migración.
