La violencia de pareja en Colombia y sus regiones

Abstract

El fenómeno de la violencia física contra las mujeres es un problema social y económico alarmante en Colombia. Las cifras para el año 2005 sugieren que el 33% de las mujeres que alguna vez han vivido con un compañero han sufrido violencia física. Aunque existen algunos análisis sobre la violencia a nivel nacional, es poco lo que se conoce sobre la incidencia del problema y sus factores asociados. Este documento usa información de la Encuesta Nacional de Demografía y Salud 2005 para analizar la incidencia nacional, y regional, y la importancia de los diversos determinantes de la violencia de pareja contra la mujer. El análisis señala que existen diferencias económicas, y estadísticamente significativas, en la incidencia de la violencia de pareja a nivel regional en Colombia. A pesar de los estereotipos regionales, en varias medidas de violencia de pareja, Bogotá muestra los indicadores más altos, mientras que el Caribe muestra los más bajos. Se encuentra además, que los niveles de riqueza son un factor asociado a la violencia de pareja a nivel nacional y de Bogotá, pero no para el Caribe.
