Influencia de los rankings universitarios sobre la calidad de las universidades de Argentina, Brasil, Chile y México

Abstract

La presente comunicación científica refiere a un trabajo de investigación en curso cuyo propósito es explicar sobre la calidad de las instituciones de educación superior en América Latina, esto desde la perspectiva de la evaluación por medio de los rankings universitarios. La pregunta central es ¿cómo han influido los rankings universitarios en la calidad de las universidades en América Latina, específicamente de Argentina, Brasil, Chile y México?, y dado esta influencia, ¿cuáles son las estrategias empleadas por estas universidades y qué resultados obtienen a partir de su implementación? Para dar respuesta a estas interrogantes, el objetivo central es, establecer qué tipo de influencia ejercen los indicadores de calidad del Academic Ranking World Universities (ARWU) sobre las universidades de Argentina, Brasil, Chile y México, y en un segundo plano, se pretende identificar aquellas estrategias que impulsan a las universidades a insertarse en las escalas de medición de la calidad en el contexto internacional. Se propone la siguiente hipótesis de trabajo: los rankings universitarios influyen positivamente sobre las estrategias implementadas por las universidades de Argentina, Brasil, Chile y México, lo que les permite tener un mejor desempeño. En este escrito se lleva a cabo un análisis de la situación de una muestra determinada de universidades latinoamericanas que participan en el ARWU, la Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Federal de Rio de Janeiro, Universidad de Chile y Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Se hace un recuento del desempeño que han mostrado en el período de 2003 a 2015, con base en los indicadores de calidad del ranking.
