Abstract

This study aims to explore if religious identity influences sustainable behavior and attitudes, and if so, to what extent sustainable knowledge mediates this relationship. The study used an online poll to contact 450 religious personnel employed in Turkey, utilizing the snowball sampling technique. There were 390 responses in all, but four were excluded because they were completed carelessly. The SmartPLS software was used to examine the research data. The study's findings suggest a strong correlation between religious identity and sustainable knowledge. Furthermore, it was discovered that there is a considerable correlation between sustainable behavior and attitudes and sustainable knowledge. Furthermore, it was shown that religious identification had a favorable and substantial impact on sustainable behavior and attitudes. The research makes three primary theoretical contributions to the literature. First, by analyzing the study's results in light of how religious identity and the degree of sustainable knowledge affect the sustainable conduct and attitudes of religious leaders, it is anticipated that this will contribute to the body of literature. Second, it is expected that by raising the understanding of religious authorities regarding sustainability issues, the Presidency of Religious Affairs will learn valuable lessons and contribute to promoting sustainable habits. Third, it is anticipated that staff members who identify as religiously sustainable would be assisted in implementing sustainable practices in their work. According to the study's findings, religious authorities in Turkey have a significant and favorable influence on sustainable behavior and attitudes through their religious identities.
