Wettbewerb, Wettbewerbspolitik und Wirtschaftswachstum. Theoretische Grundlagen und empirische Evidenz für Österreich

Abstract

Seit Mitte der neunziger Jahre hat sich der Wettbewerb auf den Produktmärkten in Österreich, angetrieben durch "von außen induzierte" wettbewerbsorientierte Strukturreformen, deutlich belebt. Unter diesen geänderten Rahmenbedingungen entwickelte sich die österreichische Wirtschaft den neunziger Jahren sehr günstig, in der jüngsten Vergangenheit sind jedoch Anzeichen einer deutlichen Abschwächung zu erkennen. Um den erfolgreichen Wachstumspfad fortschreiben zu können, erscheinen weitere wettbewerbsorientierte Politikmaßnahmen dringend erforderlich. Eine wachstumsorientierte Wettbewerbspolitik findet in Österreich aufgrund teils hochkonzentrierter Marktstrukturen einen vergleichsweise großen Spielraum vor.
