Modularitás és változatossági hozadék
[Modularity and the benefits of diversity]

Abstract

A napjainkban zajló információs forradalom számos stabilnak hitt összefüggést felborít. A ,,szérianagyság", amelyet sok évtizeden keresztül a gazdaságos termelés kulcsaként tartottak számon, sok esetben szinte nem is értelmezhető, hisz a termékek egyre nagyobb hányada ma már nem szériatermék. Az azonos modulokból sokféle kombinációban összeállított végtermékek lehetővé teszik, hogy a vállalatok úgy igazodjanak megrendelőjük igényeihez, hogy közben ne adják fel a tömeggyártás elvét sem. A modularitás alól egyetlen terület sem vonhatja ki magát, az egyetemi curriculumokat éppúgy modularizálják, mint az értékpapírokat vagy a személyi számítógépet. Ez utóbbit például a Dell Computer 16 millió (!) különféle változatban kínálja vevőinek. A cikk modularitás dinamikus előretörésének okait elemzi, e folyamat előnyeit, korlátait és árnyoldalait egyaránt bemutatva. A szerzők a modularitással összefüggő változatossági hozadék (economies of scope) elemzésével zárják írásukat. A modularitásból fakadó lehetőségeket kihasználva, a cégek egyaránt hasznot húzhatnak a méretgazdaságosságból (az egyes modulok minél nagyobb szériában való előállítása révén) és végtermékek egyéniesítéséből.
