Economic impact of cooperative management behavior on citrus production performance

Abstract

With global warming and accelerated trade, epidemic plant diseases (EPDs) are spreading rapidly, posing significant challenges to high-quality agricultural production. Using a large sample of micro-survey data, this study investigated the economic impact and mechanism of cooperative management (CM) of citrus greening in China. Results of instrumental variable and endogenous switching regression methods showed that CM behavior of citrus greening significantly improved production performance, primarily by improving citrus quality. Furthermore, the positive effect is particularly significant for farmers with good health and higher educational levels. This study provides an empirical basis and theoretical reference for promoting farmers’ CM behavior regarding EPDs, thereby boosting high-quality agricultural development.
