La Posición Investigadora De Los Sistemas Universitarios Regionales A Través De Su Producción Científica

Abstract

Los indicadores sobre producción científica constituyen uno de los ejes clave de los rankings universitarios nacionales e internacionales. Dada la relevancia que estos rankings han adquirido en los últimos años, en este trabajo se realiza un análisis de la actividad investigadora del sistema universitario público español desglosado por CCAA. Se ofrece así una aproximación de conjunto a la potencia investigadora relativa de los sistemas universitarios regionales. Aunque es bien sabido que ninguna universidad española se posiciona entre las cien primeras en los rankings internacionales, la situación de nuestra producción científica ha mejorado notablemente en los últimos diez años. Sin embargo, las diferencias en actividad científica entre CC. AA. siguen siendo muy notorias. Mediante un análisis de las publicaciones científicas en bases de datos internacionales (producción, impacto, colaboración, visibilidad y orientación temática) se han analizado los factores que pueden estar detrás de estos resultados. Se ha podido apreciar que el tamaño económico de las CC. AA. está muy vinculado con el volumen de la producción. Se observa también que factores como la apertura a la colaboración internacional están muy relacionados con la visibilidad y el impacto. Los resultados generales muestran que las universidades públicas catalanas, como sistema universitario, en conjunto, presentan una situación muy ventajosa, lo que las posiciona como uno de los principales motores del sistema español de educación superior. One of the key elements of national and international university rankings are scientific production indicators. Given the importance these rankings have gained in recent years, this paper offers an analysis of the research activity of the Spanish public university system broken down by regions. Thus, it offers a joint approach to the relative research power of regional university systems. Although it is well known that there are not Spanish universities ranking amongst the top hundred in the international rankings, the situation of our scientific production has improved dramatically over the last ten years. However, the differences in scientific activity amongst Spanish regions are still very important. Through an analysis of scientific publications in international databases (production, impact, collaboration, visibility and thematic orientation) we have been able to analyze the factors that may exist behind these results. It has been seen that the economic size of the Spanish regions is closely linked to the volume of production. We also observe that factors such as openness to international collaboration are closely related to the visibility and impact. The overall results show that public universities in Catalonia, as a whole university system, have a very advantageous situation, which places them as one of the main drivers of the Spanish higher education system.
