Beneficios económicos de Transmetro sobre la reducción de la accidentalidad vial en el área metropolitana de Barranquilla, Colombia

Abstract

RESUMEN: El principal objetivo de este documento es examinar la reducción de la accidentalidad vial en el área metropolitana de Barranquilla (AMBAQ), Colombia, a partir de la implementación del bus de tránsito rápido (BTR) Transmetro, y estimar económicamente los beneficios sociales debidos a la disminución de muertes y heridos por accidentes de tránsito en esta área entre 2010 y 2011. Con este propósito, se emplearon los lineamientos teóricos sobre externalidades en economía del transporte y un análisis cuantitativo, mediante información secundaria, a través de modelos de series de tiempo ARIMAX con cambio estructural y el valor estadístico de la vida por accidentalidad vial en Colombia. De este modo, se determinó que el beneficio agregado anual por disminución de muertes en accidentes de tránsito en el AMBAQ en 2011 fue de $3.553'216.056, y para heridos graves fue de $13.732'882.320 aproximadamente.
