Pendeln - ein zunehmender Trend, vor allem bei Hochqualifizierten : Ost-West-Vergleich

Abstract

"Seit Mitte der 90er Jahre verstärkten sich sowohl die Wanderungs- als auch die Pendlerströme von Ost nach West. Ab 2000 ging die Ost-West-Mobilität etwas zurück, der Pendlerüberschuss im Westen bleibt aber auf hohem Niveau: Er lag im Jahr 2005 bei knapp 295.000 Personen. Die ehemalige deutsch-deutsche Grenze beeinflusst auch 16 Jahre nach der Wiedervereinigung die Struktur der Mobilität: Westdeutsche Kreise entlang dieser Grenze, z.B. Fulda und Göttingen, hatten 2005 deutliche Pendlerüberschüsse. Im Osten sind es vor allem die großen Städte (Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden), die qualifizierte Beschäftigte überregional anziehen. Im Westen verteilen sich die Pendler räumlich stärker. Hier wird im Zuge der Verlagerung von Arbeitsplätzen auch ins Umland der Städte gependelt. Insgesamt nimmt die Mobilität bei allen Qualifikationsgruppen zu. Hochqualifizierte weisen über alle Jahre die höchsten Pendlerquoten auf - in Ost wie West. Bezogen auf die Siedlungsstruktur gleichen sich die Pendlerverflechtungen in Ost und West an. Dies spiegelt die nachgeholte Suburbanisierung der Beschäftigung im Osten wider. Kernstädte bieten immer weniger Beschäftigungsmöglichkeiten für Geringqualifizierte." (Autorenreferat, IAB-Doku)
