Un enfoque de género en la decisión de desarrollar una carrera profesional internacional en los estudiantes de ADE ¿Hay evidencias de "Glass Border"?

Abstract

En el ámbito de las finanzas, los negocios y la gestión empresarial, cada vez es más frecuente que los estudiantes recién licenciados decidan comenzar su carrera profesional trabajando en alguna empresa de algún país diferente al suyo. Al igual que en otros aspectos relativos al desarrollo profesional cabe preguntarse si existen asimetrías en el comportamiento de hombres y mujeres en la decisión de internacionalización. A pesar del evidente avance en la igualdad de géneros es posible que sigan existiendo factores que actúen como freno o limitación a la hora de trabajar en el extranjero que tengan un peso mayor en hombres que en mujeres, dando lugar a la existencia de un “glass border” en analogía con el concepto ya asentado en la literatura de “glass ceiling” respecto a la menor presencia de mujeres en puestos de alta dirección. La presente comunicación, centrada en aquellos estudiantes que finalizan sus estudios universitarios en Administración y Dirección de Empresas explora de forma empírica la presencia o no de dicho efecto diferencial junto con algunos otros factores que pueden influir en la intención de desarrollar o no una carrera profesional de carácter internacional. Mediante el empleo de modelos de elección discreta se analiza la influencia del género en la decisión de desarrollar carrera profesional internacional una vez controlados el resto de factores, tanto de tipo socioeconómico, como académicos, de personalidad, y de contexto (“peer” effects). Los datos para el análisis empírico han sido obtenidos mediante la aplicación de una batería de cuestionarios a estudiantes de los últimos cursos de ADE en la Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid.
