Les disparités d’évolution de l’emploi sont-elles dues à la nature des entreprises ou à leur localisation ? Une analyse multiniveaux sur les zones d’emploi françaises

Abstract

Cette recherche vise à mettre en évidence l’influence des caractéristiques individuelles et des caractéristiques locales sur la variation des effectifs salariés des entreprises. Elle recourt à l’analyse multiniveaux qui permet de traiter simultanément des variables individuelles et locales malgré leur structure emboîtée. Nous appliquons cette méthode à des données d’entreprises françaises géoréférencées sur la période 2004-2010. Les mo-dèles estimés permettent d’expliquer l’hétérogénéité des variations des effectifs salariés en distinguant les facteurs individuels liés aux spécificités des firmes du rôle joué par les caractéristiques du territoire où elles sont implantées. Les résultats montrent que les caractéristiques individuelles des entreprises expliquent l’essentiel de leur trajectoire de croissance. L’influence du milieu local, plus mineure, apparaît inégale selon la conjoncture économique (avant et pendant la crise), la taille des firmes et le type de zone d’emploi (productive ou présentielle) dans laquelle elles sont localisées.
