Le marché des transporteurs aériens canadiens : une étude clinique en organisation industrielle

Abstract

Résumé : Très peu d’études cliniques existent en économie, et encore moins sur l’économie canadienne. Nous proposons ainsi une étude clinique qui s’utiliserait dans le contexte d’un cours avancé en organisation industrielle, et plus particulièrement dans le cadre d’une série de séances de cours sur la concurrence à la Cournot, à la Bertrand et à la Stackelberg. Nous utilisons la faillite du transporteur aérien Jetsgo en 2005 pour regarder l’impact à court terme sur la valeur marchande des deux autres transporteurs aériens au Canada, Air Canada et Westjet. La présente étude clinique permet de prendre en considération la structure du marché du transport aérien de passagers au Canada pour expliquer la réaction du marché boursier. L’étude développe des modèles économiques simples de concurrence à la Nash-Cournot et à la Stackelberg pour voir lequel explique le mieux le marché intérieur canadien du transport aérien suite à la disparition d’un joueur important.
