Desarrollo industrial, profundización financiera e innovación: un estudio para México

Abstract

El objetivo de este trabajo es examinar, mediante un modelo panel de efectos fijos, el impacto del crédito bancario, así como de la apertura económica y del capital tecnológico, sobre la dinámica del valor agregado en 14 subsectores manufactureros de México durante el periodo 2003-2021. Los resultados principales sugieren: i) una relación positiva entre el crédito y la dinámica manufacturera, aunque este efecto es marginal; ii) que un aumento de las exportaciones y la inversión extranjera directa impulsa la expansión económica, especialmente entre las industrias dinámicas; iii) que la innovación tecnológica constituye el factor determinante de la actividad industrial. Con esta evidencia, es posible concluir que, a pesar de la profundización del sistema financiero en México, este proceso resulta insuficiente para el tamaño y requerimientos de inversión de la economía. En este contexto, se debe instrumentar una miscelánea de políticas para redefinir los incentivos de mercado que permitan optimizar la internalización de las ganancias asociadas con el desarrollo bancario. La contribución del artículo reside en analizar a nivel de subsector económico las implicaciones de la profundización financiera sobre el crecimiento.
