Navigating the path to sustainable development: China's revolution in renewable energy through technological innovation and geopolitical risk management

Abstract

This research investigates China's transition toward renewable energy and its influence on sustainable development. The study examines the impact of technological innovation, geopolitical risks, natural resource rents, and foreign direct investment on renewable energy policy formation from 1991 to 2020. The research uses advanced econometric models proving that technical innovation and foreign direct investment push renewable energy expansion, but natural resource dependence generates reverse development effects known as the 'resource curse.' Sustainability efforts face additional difficulties from geopolitical risks, which reduce investment flows and market trade and obstruct technology exchanges. To promote sustainable progress, businesses need policies encouraging technological FDI while lowering resource dependency and handling geopolitical risks. This research delivers practical guidance that Chinese authorities and governments throughout resource-abundant areas can use to progress toward renewable energy sustainability.
