Abstract

•Entrepreneurs who established rapport with their employees tend to be more compassionate toward their employees.•Entrepreneurs who have more compassion toward their employees consider a layoff decision unacceptable.•The indirect relationship between rapport, compassion, and moral judgment remains, regardless of the moral identity of the entrepreneurs.
