Acts of helping and harming

Abstract

We assess helping and harming behavior towards an anonymous individual in a real effort and a chosen effort experiment. Both help and harm are widespread and highly correlated. Almost all individuals who harm others also help others. High cost reduces both prosocial and anti-social behavior.
