How do justice and top management beliefs matter in industrial symbiosis collaboration: An exploratory study from China

Abstract

Justice has been widely studied by behavior researchers in recent years. However, it has not received very much attention in industrial symbiosis (IS) network research. This inductive study presents a synthetic conceptual model connecting justice to corporate collaborative actions in the context of IS through top management. Using structural equation modeling to analyze a survey of 209 firms in two eco‐industrial parks in China, we examined inductively the effects of distributive, procedural, and interactional justice on top management, IS collaboration, and environmental performance of firms. Results demonstrate that different aspects of justice have different direct and indirect effects on IS collaboration and environmental performance. Furthermore, we detected that top management beliefs (TMB) affect IS collaboration and influence environmental performance. The mediating effect of IS collaboration between TMB and environmental performance was examined and discussed.
