OPCIONES REALES Una guía teórico-práctica para la valoración de inversiones bajo incertidumbre mediante modelos en tiempo discreto y simulación de Monte Carlo

Abstract

El análisis de opciones reales (ROA, por sus siglas en inglés) ha representado un campo de estudio novedoso en la valoración y toma de decisiones de inversión bajo incertidumbre. Al integrar herramientas propias de la teoría de la decisión, la teoría de opciones financieras y la teoría de juegos, permite incorporar la flexibilidad e incertidumbre, así como las interacciones competitivas al análisis de inversiones desde un enfoque que complementa al modelo tradicional de valoración, es decir, al modelo de flujo de caja descontado (FCD), en el que se identifican los criterios del valor presente neto (VPN) y la tasa interna de retorno (TIR), entre otros. En este sentido, el ROA introduce un nuevo paradigma en la toma de decisiones de inversión. El libro Opciones reales. Una guía teórico-práctica para la valoración de inversiones bajo incertidumbre mediante modelos en tiempo discreto y simulación de Monte Carlo está dirigido tanto a académicos como a practicantes; tiene una presentación sencilla que resume mi experiencia en el campo de investigación de opciones reales. Este primer volumen introduce al lector en esta área de estudio, acompañado de ejercicios de fácil aplicación que pueden ser implementados en la hoja de cálculo de Excel. Además, todos los ejercicios están fundamentados en los métodos numéricos de valoración de activos contingentes: los árboles binomiales y la técnica de simulación de Monte Carlo. Aunque se exponen algunos desarrollos basados en métodos analíticos (a nivel de valoración y estimación de volatilidad), estos solo se presentan con fines comparativos y sin mayor profundidad en ellos.
