L'instabilite du revenu des parents seuls, des celibataires et des familles biparentales au Canada, 1984 a 2004

Abstract

Dans le present document, nous nous appuyons sur les donnees fiscales pour examiner l'instabilite du revenu des parents seuls, des celibataires et des familles biparentales au Canada au cours des deux dernieres decennies. Nous tachons de repondre aux questions suivantes : Observe t-on une croissance generale de l'instabilite des gains chez les parents seuls (en particulier les meres seules) et les personnes seules au cours des 20 dernieres annees? Comment les tendances de l'instabilite des gains chez les parents seuls et les personnes seules se comparent-elles aux tendances parmi les familles biparentales? Quel est le role des transferts gouvernementaux et du systeme d'impot progressif dans l'attenuation des differences d'instabilite des gains dans les differents segments de la distribution des gains chez les groupes susmentionnes? Nous trouvons peu d'indications d'une croissance generale de l'instabilite des gains au cours des deux dernieres decennies et nous demontrons que les transferts gouvernementaux jouent un role particulierement important dans la reduction de l'instabilite du revenu d'emploi des meres seules et des personnes seules. .
