Abstract

This paper provides a description and background information related to the experimental project on “Trust and trustworthiness in association members and in the society”. The main purpose of the project has been to test experimentally one of the main theses of the social capital literature, i.e. that associations are key elements in the fabric of inter-personal trust towards unknown others in a society. The paper provides a brief introduction to the research, a description of the subject pool, a methodological discussion of our sample selection strategy, descriptive statistics of experimental behaviour, and finally the instructions and the questionnaire administered to participants.
